Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro urged members of a regional bloc known as the Lima Group to change their stance over his new presidential term in Caracas on Wednesday.

“This note of diplomatic protest where we demand a rectification of your positions on Venezuela in 48 hours, or the government of Venezuela will take the most urgent and crude diplomatic measures to defend the integrity, sovereignty and dignity of our Venezuela,” Maduro said.

The Group of Lima signed a statement last week claiming that Maduro’s new six-year term would illegitimate, as the election on May 20, 2018 was not fair and free.

Signatory countries included Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and St. Lucia.
